Kennewick’s history includes its roots as a small agricultural town, but it gained significant attention with the discovery of the Kennewick Man in 1996. This ancient skeleton, dating back over 9,000 years, became one of the most studied and debated archaeological finds in North America. It is located along the southwest bank of the Columbia River, just southeast of the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima rivers and across from the confluence of the Columbia and Snake rivers.
